Each year, Dlr Sports Partnership coordinates supports and promotes a variety of sports and physical activity events throughout the year. There are various themes including, Community 5k, Women in Sport Week, Coastival, SportsAbility Month, Her Outdoors and European Week of Sport. These flagship events promote being physically active and provide people of all ages and abilities with the opportunity to take part in safe, organised, and supportive community-based events with others.
The aim of Women in Sport Week is to:
Celebrate every woman and girl who plays, coaches, officiates, volunteers, works in, and leads out on Women in Sport. Promote and highlight the ongoing work of Sport Ireland, NGBs, LSPs and other stakeholders and clubs under the topic of Women in Sport. Highlight some of the programmes/initiatives funded by Sport Ireland Women in Sport Programme.
Coastival 2023 will run from 1-9th July and will celebrate everything we love about Dún Laoghaire. This new week-long festival will coincide with the Volvo Dún Laoghaire Regatta and includes exciting family fun each day both on land and water. We also have a full programme of live music and comedy for Coastival Nights.
Building on the success of previous SportsAbility events, the month-long celebration will showcase the best opportunities for people with disabilities to get involved in sport and physical activity.
HER Outdoors week aims to celebrate and encourage more females to get out and enjoy the benefits of being in the outdoors while bringing visibility to the opportunities for females to get involved in outdoor physical activity.
European Week of Sport aims to promote sport and physical activity in countries across Europe. The week is for everyone, regardless of age, background or fitness level. With a focus on grassroots initiatives, the aim is to inspire Europeans to #BeActive on a regular basis and create opportunities in peoples’ everyday lives to exercise more.
Want to take part in a fun active event for all the family and all abilities? If so register now for the dlr Community 5K. This inclusive event returns for its 14th year in full force with over a thousand participants expected to be running, walking, jogging or rolling the 5km scenic route around Kilbogget Park.
Santa Dash is a festive inclusive run or walk for all the family on Sunday in December in Cabinteely Park. Run, walk, or roll your way through our Winter Wonderland.
