The launch of the newly updated SportsAbility Groups in DLR booklet took place on the 3rd December 2023, International Day for People with a Disability.
The booklet compiled by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnerships holds information on the clubs in our County that are inclusive for people with a disability, such as; what disability is catered for, what time/day the activity takes place and contact details to get in touch. The booklet is an important resource and welcomed by people with a disability, their families and those that work in the area of disability.

The launch of the booklet tied in with an event for children with additional needs in Scoil Mhuire Primary School, Shankill. The children took part in fun activities in the hall including obstacle courses, a bouncing castle and even a sock fight!
An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Denis O’ Callaghan who attended the launch commented,
‘I was delighted to attend the launch of the SportsAbility Groups in DLR Booklet on International Day for People with a Disability. This booklet is a user friendly, quick guide which can assist people with a disability, their families, local disability service and schools to access important information on inclusive activities that are available in their locality. Sport & activity is a fantastic way in helping to grow more inclusive communities and I hope this booklet will make the path a little easier.’
Gwen O’Looney- Acting Sports Inclusion Disability Officer with DLR Sports Partnership works to increase the participation of people with disabilities in sport, fitness and physical activity. She remarked,
‘It is reassuring to see the number of DLR inclusive clubs highlighted in the booklet and the great work they do. We will continue to strive to create an inclusive environment and a place for all abilities in our local clubs and groups.’
