Getting Active in The Gap – #BeActive Night 2024

Be Active Night

Active Cities Dublin & Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership successfully launched the European Week of Sport 2024 with an exciting #BeActive Night on Saturday, September 21st. Held at The Gap Adventure Park in Glencullen, the family adventure festival offered an evening filled with fun and engaging activities for all ages.

Families had the chance to participate in taster sessions and “Come & Try” experiences, where they could explore a variety of outdoor activities, including mountain biking, nature education with Forest Kids, archery, footgolf, and much more.

The lively atmosphere was enhanced by a live DJ Gordo, and attendees enjoyed a range of games, such as rowing challenges, Connect 4, Jenga, and one of the evening’s main attractions—the Tug O’ War!

An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Jim O’Leary who attended and tried a lot of the activities at the event said

“It’s great to see so many people come to this event and partake in the free activities and making use of the fantastic facilities in the Gap Adventure Park, Glencullen. The Mountains are on our doorstep here in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and we should all try to “unlock” the mountains and access outdoor activities more often”.

Frank Curran, CEO of DLR County Council  said

“What a wonderful collaboration between The Sports Partnership, DLR County Council, NGB’s and local businesses to bring free activities to the local community”.

Walking trails around the venue provided an opportunity to explore the beautiful Dublin Mountains with a short hill walk to discover “The Giants Grave,” or participants could join the Hiking Yogi’s for some yoga poses amidst nature.

Some lucky attendees even spotted talented downhill mountain bikers showcasing their skills on the tracks.

Huge thanks to the Dún Laoghaire Volunteer Centre who gave us great support with extra admin support on the day.

This free event was made possible through funding from the Sport Ireland Dormant Accounts Fund and Active Cities Dublin.
