Boccia

Boccia is a target Sport played by individuals, pairs or teams of people with physical disabilities.  It is a strategic version of the game bowls. DLR Sports Partnership currently runs Boccia in Loughlinstown Leisure Centre; the sessions take place on Wednesdays between 11.30am and 1.00pm.


Powerchair Football

Powerchair football is a competitive team sport for people with physical disabilities who use power wheelchairs. The game is played in a gymnasium on a regulation basketball court. Two teams of four players use powerchairs equipped with footguards to attack, defend, and spin-kick a 13-inch (330 mm) football in an attempt to score goals.


 

Tandem Bike

Dún Laoghaire County Council have purchased a tandem bike, in partnership with dlr Sports Partnership, for use primarily for those with a disability. The bike can be hired for €5 per half day from the Dún Laoghaire Tourist Information Centre, located in the County Council Offices, across from Dun Laoghiare DART station.

dlr Sports Partnership also lend the bike to local services and special schools for their own use.

The bike is a dream to cycle and all equipment is provided.

So make the most of these warm sunny days and hire the bike today!!! Head up the Metals to Dalkey for some lunch or check out the views from The Obelisk, Killiney Hill.

Inclusive Cycling Programme

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership hold 2 Inclusive Cycling Programmes for children with mild physical disabilities and ASD annually.

Our cycling instructor will give you hints and tips on how to give your child the best possible chance to cycle independently but the parents will be doing the majority of the coaching and work during the sessions.

Children should be between the ages of 5-12 years old and be able to walk and sit independently. 

It is recommended that each child brings their own bike, but there will be bikes available if required.

Sports Hall Athletics

Now in its 3rd year, this 4-6 week indoor athletics programme provides children with a disability the opportunity of participating in athletic events in an indoor setting with the emphasis very much on teamwork and fun.  The programme is open to special schools or mainstream schools with special units within Dún Laoghaire Rathdown. A qualified athletics coach runs the hour long sessions in house, providing all the equipment and the programme is funded by dlr Sports Partnership.

Sessions include obstacle relay, long jump, target throw, javelin throw and sprint relay. Thoughout the coaching sessions children develop the fundamental movement skills of agility, balance and coordination in a fun environment where they can participate at their own level.
